02/08/2012 - Syracuse, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The 12th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas will attempt to tarnish the second-ranked Syracuse Orange's perfect home record tonight as the two square off in a Big East battle at the Carrier Dome.
This will be the 87th encounter between the Hoyas and Orange. Syracuse leads the all-time series 47-39 after it picked up a 58-51 victory over Georgetown last season on Feb 26th, 2011 in Washington, DC.
John Thompson III has led the Hoyas to an 18-4 overall record and an 8-3 mark in Big East action so far. Georgetown dominated South Florida, 75-45, its last time out for its second win in a row. The Bulls were the second straight opponent the Hoyas held under 50 points. Georgetown has not backed down from its top-tier opponents this season, as it is 4-1 against top 25 teams. The Hoyas' defense is allowing a league-best 58.6 ppg, while they average 71.0 ppg on the offensive end.
Jason Clark is pacing Georgetown this season with a team-highs of 15.2 points and 1.8 steals per game. The senior guard has shot 56.2 percent from the field in his last two outings. Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims are both vital to the Hoyas' success as well. Thompson is second in the team with a scoring average of 13.7 ppg. Sims had team-highs of 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in the recent win over South Florida. Otto Porter is reeling in a team-high 6.6 rpg.
Syracuse went back to its dominating fashion on Saturday as it rolled past St. John's to pick up a 95-70 decision. Head coach Jim Boeheim has led his team to sole possession of first place in the Big East as it has a 10-1 record in league play. The Orange's only loss this season was to Notre Dame, which they played without their impactful center Fab Melo. Syracuse leads the league in scoring with an average of 78.1 ppg, and has held its opponents to 60.8 ppg.
The Orange have had all their success come this season through a total team effort. There is not any player on Syracuse with jaw-dropping statistics, but the team's play as a solidified unit has led to superb results. Kris Joseph leads Syracuse in scoring with 13.7 ppg on 44.3 percent shooting. The senior forward has been consistent lately, reaching double figures in six straight contests. Dion Waiters averages a second-best 12.3 ppg, while Brandon Triche chips in an even 10.0 ppg. Scoop Jardine controls the offense for the Orange and leads it with 4.8 assists per contest. Melo anchors the patented 2-3 zone with 3.0 blocks per game.

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.
Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.
Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
